I am very familiar with pyrex. I use many pyrex items every day. It is a good well made product. I have measuring cupsin 1,2 and 4 cup sizes as well as mixing bowls with covers to double as storage units also. I also have five different sizes of bakeware as well. It is a great product that will last forever, some of my pieces are over 25-30 years old. It would make a nice gift that you know will be used and not sit in a closet.

I have owned this measuring cup for quite a few years and it is my favorite. I love that the extra space above the 8 ounce line allows for mess-free whisking when combining ingredients for stir-fry or pan sauces. The head room helps prevent spillage when transporting fluids from one workspace to another, which the "classic" version does not. I even use the cup to eat my lowfat ice cream from! It's my portion control vigilante and I can easily get a spoon into it. I take under advisement that "Pyrex", under new ownership, should not be trusted to safely go from one extreme temperature to another (as cited in recent accounts of violent breakage). While that's unfortunate, I view this as a small inconvenience, considering every other household product available to us has at least one aspect that calls for compromise. Even stainless steel cookware manufacturers tell consumers not to immerse hot pans into cold water to prevent warping.

Great product, but if you're looking to conserve on space, this isn't it. Otherwise, no qualms. . .

Not much to say about a measuring cup...it measures liquids accurately. Sometimes I will microwave in it, and it is fine for that as well. These Pyrex glass cups are pretty much a requirement for anyone who cooks or bakes.

This is a great cup, except for one little thing: the measurements are wrong! 1 cup, according to this measuring cup, is actually closer to 7/8 cup. I have compared it to older PYREX measuring cups (2 cup and 4 cup sizes), as well as to a variety of other measuring cups. The other measuring cups are all consistent, both Pyrex and non-Pyrex. But the measurements provided by this 1-cup Pyrex cup are consistently too low.
What is most astonishing to me is that none of the other reviewers has remarked about this. I hope that others will now test their own cups - it would be nice to know whether perhaps Pyrex's 1-cup measuring cups in general are okay, and I happened to end up with the lone defective unit. My measuring technique: I use the bottom of the meniscus (the curve in the surface of the liquid), which is how I was taught to do it in Chemistry and Biology laboratories. I have also compared the weights of 1 cup of room temperature water, as determined on a digital cooking scale, and found the weight of this cup's contents to be less than that of a cup as measured by other measuring cups.
