Marinex Glass Bakeware production began over 50 years ago by Santa Marina, the largest glass manufacturer in Latin America. Located in Brazil, Santa Marina has been producing different glass products since 1895. The factory location is close to raw material deposits of boron and sand which is rich in color and quality. During the production process, these raw materials are combined using heat to make borosilicate glass. Borosilicate glass is resistant to changes in temperatures used in cooking and baking. The raw materials also give Marinex glass bakeware a slight bluish tint consistant throughout all pieces. Marinex Glass Bakeware offers several shapes and sizes that have countless uses in culinary activities and are prominent by their beauty, durability, and ease of cleaning. It can be used to prepare, bake, and serve food as well as to freeze prepared food. It is safe for both conventional ovens and microwave ovens. Marinex Bakeware can go from the freezer/refrigerator to a pre-heated oven where the oven temperature does not exceed 100C or 212F to start. However, Marinex Bakeware should not be used on stovetop burners or over a direct flame. This is a 12.3qt. rectangular baking dish with a plastic lid. Plastic lids vary in color from red, green, yellow, purple, blue, and clear. All Marinex bakeware is dishwasher safe. Item #GD16534007.

 "Not your Grandmother's CorningWare" 2009-08-28
By Zack Davisson (Seattle, WA, USA)
Once upon a time CorningWare was a name you could trust. Their unique pyroceramic glass cookware was almost indestructible, being devised from materials used for the nose cones of ballistic missiles. It was true "Space Age Technology" that could go directly from the stovetop into the refrigerator with nary a crack. A single CorningWare dish was said to have a lifespan of 1,000 years.

This was seen as a problem when the CorningWare brand was bought by World Kitchens Incorporated in 2001. They didn't want to sell you a dish every 1,000 years, they wanted the dishes to break so you would have to buy new ones. And so the pyroceramic formula was discontinued, and regular white-glazed stoneware was sold under the CorningWare brand.

Which is what we have here. This "CorningWare 2.5-qt. Oval Casserole with Lid - French White" is a fine, serviceable casserole dish that will bake up some tasty things in your oven. It has a classic design, and does just what it is supposed to do. No real complaints in that department. If all you are looking for is an inexpensive, temporary casserole dish, then this will fit the bill.

It just isn't really CorningWare. This casserole dish is designed to break, and it will eventually. Try and use it on your stovetop, or the extreme temperature changes that have become the hallmark of the brand, and it will shatter. Something to be aware of if you are buying this for the brand.

 "Not the real McCoy" 2008-01-05
By Lucky One (Tennessee)
When I ordered this, I thought it was CorningWare. NOT. It is stoneware. A world of difference...stoneware is heavier and susceptible to temperature shock breakage. This may be made by "CorningWare" but it is not the original CorningWare ceramic; which, it turns out, is no longer available. The casserole is a nice size, but not the real McCoy.

"Casserole Dish an important part of the kitchen" 2007-08-10
By David Stottlemyer (Kooskia, Idaho USA)
My wife wanted a large casserole dish to add to her kitchen cooking supplies. This CorningWare 2-1/2 Quart oval dish works perfect for her needs. Often, when you have guests coming, or are preparing food for a large group, you want prepare the food ahead of time - then just warm it at the last minute for serving. A casserole dish works great in many of these type of situations. Just stick it in the oven, and go about your other duties - the food will be ready when you are. Also, we've discovered that rice has a completely different texture when "baked" in a casserole dish in the oven as opposed to using a rice cooker or the boiling water method.

One note of caution on this dish - it does not have handles or a large lip so handling it when hot out of the oven can be a problem. Also, the glass lid is not very secure on the top. Still, I recommend this for any who are interested in purchasing a casserole dish.

 "its a bowl" 2009-11-20
By R. Hoang (California, USA)
i got this as a replacement for a bowl that my friend broke. my old bowl was one of those in the set with the lids. Seeing this one doesnt come with a lid, i was hoping that just the size (2 1/2 quarts) would be universal for pyrex products, i took a chance and ordered it. the worse that could happen is i would have a new bowl and have to toss out the old lid, but i was excited that it actually fit the old bowl's lid. yay!

"This IS a ceramic bowl! If you don't want stoneware, get something else." 2009-08-07
By Elly (NJ)
This is not what most people think of when they see the word "Corningware." The old word is being used on an entirely different product.

The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.

When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.

The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and they do offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."

Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.

The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."

They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making an appearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!

Meanwhile, get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

"Great as a dog bowl!" 2006-08-18
By M. McDaniel (Rocket City)
I purchased 3 of these casserole dishes. I use them as water bowls for my dogs because my dogs don't like to drink out of plastic or metal, and the ceramic bowls break too easily. These are perfect, even to use outside. I can put them in the dishwasher and have no smells that the dogs don't like. By the way - I have two dogs, and the third dish is for me to cook with.

"Great to have in addition to the glass lids" 2009-05-20
By ireneinla (LA CA)
These really are a must when buying the Corningware French White line. The reasons I state this: Firstly, many of the baking dishes share the same lid, this can be a dilema when using both of those bases at the same time, Secondly, the plastic covers are flat for better stacking in the refrigerator. I truly think these are a must have!

I have an old set of CorningWare that was made before they starting offering this nifty lid. It is great. I'll save lots of cling wrap by using this lid. The only issue I've had is getting it on because it's a very tight fit and tomato sauce stains it.

I would buy this again.

Everyone needs a dish like this. My mother bought me one for Christmas several years ago. My toddler son "accidentally" broke it, and I put off buying a replacement for several months. When the replacement dish finally arrived, I had forgotten how wonderful it was. This dish plus a microwave is the best rice cooker in the world. I don't think you can find a better dish for the price.

For several months I pondered getting this, but was put off by the reviews which describe a very rough bottom. Eventually I ordered it anyway because I needed something this shape and size.

My product arrived broken, but Amazon immediately sent a replacement, no questions asked, so I am very impressed with customer service!

And much to my delight, the base of my dish is wonderfully smooth. I have been using it frequently for several weeks, and am so pleased. It bakes evenly, holds heat well for use as a serving dish, and is easy to clean. What more could I ask for?

By M. Lietzke
I bought a CorningWare 2 1/2 quart casserole dish at K-mart several years ago, and what I received from Amazon today is not at all the same thing (even though it has the same name and looks somewhat similar). The old dish is the true CorningWare material (glass-based), a bright white, and made in the USA. The new dish is stoneware, off-white, and made in China. CorningWare kept the name but has gone cheap on quality, which is shameful. Now I see another reviewer saying the same thing... wish I would have read it before ordering!! I should have bought the no-brand cheapie on sale at Wal-mart instead of this piece of junk.

Buyer beware! The tops of 4 of my 5 Corning Ware dishes are not exactly circular nor are they "oblong" but "squared circular," that is more like a squared circle. "Oval" describes it well! However, the "Oval" lids I selected from Amazon were "oblong," not the squared circular I needed. The image on the web site appears to match what I needed, but does not match the shape of my Corning Ware. I am still looking for 4 lids for "A 3 B, 3 quart Corning Ware, range and microwave, USA."
