I ordered two of these au gratin dishes and am very happy with them. I have many pieces of the Creations series in onyx and they are my favorite bakeware. The even baking and non-stick surface is wonderful...I even gave away all of the French White Corningware that I had as I much prefer these. I like these au gratin dishes so much I am ordering 2 more for myself and 2 for my daughter.



Just a note about the labels that come affixed to the inside bottom of the dish--DO NOT SOAK IN WATER!!! It does take a little work to get your nails under the edge of the label, but when you do, thanks to the plastic coating on the underside of the label, the whole label will easily peel off in one piece, without tearing or shredding, allowing you to read all the instructions and recommendation on the inside of the label.



I do wish the pieces were easier to locate, there are a couple in the series that I do not have yet, and am looking for.

I recently purchased a new Sharp R-820JS .9-Cubic Foot Grill 2 Convection Microwave (Amazon has a great price on this unit as well) and needed something which was microwave-safe and would also hold up under heat. The Sharp has a relatively small cavity so I needed some smaller bakeware that would fit inside. This Corningware Au Gratin dish is perfect.



Not only can it be used for Au Gratin potatoes, the size is perfect for roasting chicken, beef, and pork roasts. The somewhat shallow sides make it ideal for baking french fries and grilling various foods. Along with the 12 oz. Au Gratin dish this really fills the bill and between the two they are used for 90% of what I cook in the Sharp.



As serving pieces they look very nice on the table and it is a joy to present my guests with sizzling hot food directly from the oven or grill. Of course color is a personal choice but I agree with another reviewer, the Black Onyx with its glossy surface has an elegant look which sets off the food being served.



Clean up is easy and these go directly into my dishwasher. Since these are stoneware they can absorb water so should not be soaked. Stoneware that is soaked can break or exhibit surface crazing when the absorbed water expands and turns to steam in the oven.

I got this as a gift for Christmas 2006. I'd only used it 4 or 5 times when, one day, I put a pork tenderloin in it to bake (at 350 degrees). While it was cooking I heard a crack, and when my digital thermometer indicated the tenderloin was done, I saw that the dish had broken right in half!



It WAS a beautiful dish, and matched my Hearthstone plates so well. I was disappointed that it didn't hold up.

Pretty dish, lovey color & perfect price... But inside of dish was sticker

that covered the whole bottem which will not come off. It took 24 hours for paper(soaking in warm water with soap) to loosen it but now thick sticky glue will not come off. I have been scaping it with a knife. Now will see what happens. I hope it doesn't get all scratched up.

I have purchased several of the CorningWare Creations pieces and have been very pleased with both its performace, looks and shipping. Overall, this series is very hard to find. I found a few pieces in a Corning outlet in Servierville, TN, but only the Sapphire and Ruby pieces and the price was about the same as Amazon. Definitely not worth the drive when UPS will drop them at my door.



For this specific piece, I ordered it on Tuesday and it arrived Friday in perfect condition. It was packed in a bubble wrap envelope inside an Amazon "ready to ship" box which was then placed into a larger box with Diamond White 24 oz Au Gratin dish. I have never had a piece come broken, although the packing has sometimes left much to be desired.



The set over all stacks very well one inside another for cabinet storage and without scratching. I have hit the pieces pretty hard on the counter and banged them in the sink. I have never had a chip or break despite the fact I am not always as gentle as I should be. My boyfriend likes these pieces because he is in charge of clean up if I cook. All he has to do is stick the lid on and pop it in the fridge. There is no seal on the lid, it simply fits in place as one would expect, but strangely enough he did this with fresh salsa and there was no onion smell in the fridge. I like the Ruby and the Diamond White. The Diamond White looks good enough to use on a formal table with my china, which is white with platinum accents. It also looks great with casual dishes, which makes this series very useful.



This is a larger dish than I thought it would be. Plenty big enough for 12 enchiladas, for serving large quantities of sweet potato casserole, and for any other goody I might come up with. Again, I have stacked this in the cabinet with other au gratin pieces in the collection and there are no scratches. Metal utensils used to scope out enchiladas also left no marks, nor did being stacked in the sink and having forks and other utensils tossed in on top. Still looks new.

Very pretty, but it arrived broken despite looking like it was packed well.

Customer service was great, and immediately shipped a replacement.

That appeared to be well packed, cushioning on three sides. BUT the bottom had no cushioning. Anyhow, you guessed it. The replacement also arrived broken.



I certainly do not recommend buying this product.

I bought this and thought it was decent. Don't forget 24oz is small. Its not a dish that can hold several portions. If you are looking to use it for one portion that is fine. One thing I need to point out is that the cover is plastic and plastic heating up in a microwave according to some may not be the best idea since plastic in a heated environment can give off toxins. Something some may want to keep in mind. Happy eating!

The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.



When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning n the late 90's, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.



The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and they do offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."



Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.



The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."



They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making a reappearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!



Meanwhile, don't buy this stuff. Get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

The item works fine and looks good. My only complaint is that the dish a little too shallow. It could be a little deeper/taller, perhaps with a smaller diameter. If it were deeper, I would have given it a five. Arrived in perfect condition.
