I could only find 1-Quart Pyrex bowls combined with two other larger bowls at the local Meglo-Mart which I already had and rarely use. I needed a few more of these 1 quart bowls which I tend to use everyday for heating up lunch and dinner foods (and they work great as a "Jethro BoDean" cereal bowls as well! (Beverly Hillbillies). The rim on the bowl works well to both hold plastic wrap down tight and provide a "cool-enough" place to grab strait out of the microwave. I suspect the lip would be handy for mixing bowl purposes as well.

I already had a set of these bowls that I had gotten as a wedding gift 15 years ago and now with 7 kids, I find I needed more of them. I was excited to see Amazon had them for sale.



The bowls are a heavy glass and stand up to many years of mixing, baking, and cooking. They can even go in the oven. I highly recommend these bowls.

I know that my title for this review is a bit odd, but it is the truth! I fond that standard bowls are a little too small for cans of "Chunky" or "Healthy Sensations" soup. In standard bowl the soup comes within 1/2" of the top which makes transporting a your steamy hot soup a bit hazardous. This is not a problem with the Pyrex Prepware 1-Quart bowl!



Other features that we like-



- Completely microwave safe

- Scratch resistant

- Well-made and strudy

- Classic design

- Pyrex means that they offer some level of shock resistance

- Great value.



While these bowls may not be your choice for a nice get together they work very well for lunch!

These are your basic Pyrex 1 1/2 Qt bowls...only problem is they are NOT blue as pictured...they are clear glass. So, functionally, they work. However, I bought them primarily for the cobalt blue decorative effect...the use was a secondary concern...since I planned to display them on a rack with my other blue glassware. [Amazon even has "cobalt kitchen" as one of the Tag Sggestions].

I have advised Amazon, so, hopefully, they will correct the photos that they currently are using.

I had been covering my cup with saran, so I jumped at this cup with lid. Problem is, it does not seal. There is a big gap between the spout and the lid. So, the dressing dries out or the dressing (if garlic/onion/shallot) smell permeates through the refrig. It does not seal so liquids will leak out of the spout. It would be good for pouring off liquids from, say, micro'd veggies.

The other irritating thing is, I have 2 other PYREX 2-cup measuring cups (I bought this 3rd cup bec of the lid), and the lid doesn't fit them.

I absolutely love it. I have the 4 cup one also. They are easy to read, and the best part is the lid. Great for melting butter in the microwave and not have to worry about splatters. The lid also strains as well as pours, so there is less mess. I'm so glad I bought it.

The red lid isn't airtight even turning the slotted ends. This is a thick glass product. I have no idea about the Oxo counterpart but I would have checked out the Oxo if the Oxo had existed when I got this. I have owned this for years and it is necessary for Nigella's choco loaf cake recipe because the recipe requires half a cup of BOILING hot water. I mainly use this to bloom yeast or stir up waffle batter.

I love my Pyrex measuring cup. Actually, at 8 cups, it's more the size of a bowl. And I use it for mixing too, because of the handle and pour spout. I have had mine for 9 months now and the red lettering is still in place, despite many trips through my washing machine. I microwave stuff in it too, it is versatile like that.



I love the heft of it, because it seems very durable. Of course if I drop it on the floor, I guess it would break - but I am not planning on doing that.



I have an 8 cup plastic measuring cup too, but I find that my Pyrex glass one is the one I take out of the cabinet to use.



I have never used the lid that came with it. I suppose I might if I ever mixed something up in it and transferred it to the refrigerator, like say a dip or something.



I urge you to buy this.

I purchased this 8 cup measuring bowl as a replacement for a broken one, and since Amazon offered me a deal, I purchased two of them. I could make a long list of its fine attributes and usefulness, however suffice to say that I would NEVER be without one of these in my kitchen ; it is an essential for me to make custards, puddings and sauces in the microwave.....nothing else provides the extra room for bubble ups, shows how much you have, and has the nice handle for handling hot bowls.

It turns out that this mixing bowl is not made by corel, and is not the high quality high temperature glass originally used. Corel sold of it's Pyrex brand to another company called World Kitchen. WK uses common bottle glass for all it's Pyrex line, rather than the 'lab glass' that made pyrex worth buying.



I was forced to purchase a replacement for the 16 year loyal pyrex measuring that finaly broke. It arrived today, complete with defective bubbles and cracks through both the handle and bowl. Return shipping will cost more than the item did to purchase, so I am out of luck.



If you are looking for the quality pyrex that has been used for generations, you are out of luck. It has not been made for a while now.

My mom and grandma have both used Pyrex casserole dishes, measuring cups, and mixing bowls for decades, and I grew up with those colorful pieces on our table. Naturally, I wanted to purchase some of those items for myself. I have a 1 cup, 2 cup and now this 4 cup measuring cup in my kitchen, and I use all three sizes on a daily basis. This four cup size is especially nifty for things like chopped fruits and veggies, beaten eggs, and cream. I like the lid that is included since I can pop this in the fridge overnight or for a few hours if needed, and I don't need to dirty another dish or waste plastic wrap or foil. The lid feels like a rubbery silicone material and is very flexible and easy to wash. I love Pyrex stuff and I wish they would come out with more pieces with colors and designs like they used to make. I have never had any Pyrex explode on me, but I do believe the people who have reported theirs exploding. As with any glass, you have to be extremely careful with sudden temperature changes. The packaging states that is is freezer, microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe, but that doesn't mean you should put hot liquid in one of these and then pop it in the freezer immediately afterwards. To me, there is nothing better than Pyrex for my baking and serving needs, and I will continue to buy their products for years to come.

I bought this cup because I am left handed and most measuring cups have the US measurments on the side for right handed people. I have to take the cup in my right hand to measure. This cup has the numbers on both sides so it works perfectly for me or anyone else. I haven't thought of a reason to use the lid yet, but I am sure I will.

As a single male trying to negotiate simplicity for a reason, I purchased this Pyrex Prepware Measuring 4-Cup for just one accurate purpose: measuring. As it would turn out, after the fact of course, I remembered I don't know how to cook so measuring had become yet another non-essential I've accumulated. If I'd only listened to those THREE NOSY FROGS ON A LOG on the red oak log just outside my door along the path! But if I were to ever measure, I'd want to measure accurately and you most definitely can do that with this Pyrex Prepware--like a long-legged female beauty in a Speedo swim suit, it's easy on the eyes; and just as important as easy is, it's made of glass and NOT what might later be discovered as some mysterious causing carcinogen leached out of its body when it reacts by the application of high heat with acids, as in tomatoes or fruit. I love my pyrex glass! And you should too.



Thank goodness for ingenuity triumphing over purpose! I prepare a lot of soups and often I like to add my own assortment of frozen vegetables. And if I'm really hungry I'll open two cans and not just one! I can put everything I desire into this, not including the spyder found after-the-fact soliciting where it didn't belong, put it in the microwave and get it nice and hot and it won't boil over! And when its done gurgling I can grab it by its handle, and by the way it really likes that! and enjoy some delicious almost-homemade soup! And not only that, you have two ways to Slurp: by the spoon (and make sure its big) or by the accurate pouring spout that'll never miss a big mouth! Imagine that!! The only thing it didn't come with was Love. But then again I didn't expect to be buying that. So if you have someone who would love to share your Pyrex cup, you're as rich as Solomon was with just one wife and a lot richer than me, so enjoy this blessing while you can as you dive into one of the simplest of Life's pleasures time and time again with this marvelous creation of glass called Pyrex!!!!

I bought these bowls because they match an even larger bowl I bought years ago in the grocery store (which still looks like new). They are endlessly useful for preparation, for cooking, for serving, for make and take and for storing in either fridge or freezer (though I'd hate to be without one while it was in the freezer). The big bowl I've had for at least 10 years is still clear (no dishwasher etching) and the sturdy lid still fits perfectly. Since they nest together along with their lids (inside the one I already owned) they don't take much shelf space. They are one of those multitasking tools that should be in every kitchen.

Our apartment-sized kitchen is probably smaller than most people's bathrooms (thankfully we were able to squeeze a dishwasher in!) so everything in it has to be multi-purpose. Pyrex is a brand that my grandmother used and she had those bowls and pots forever. It's great to be able to use these bowls for a range of needs - preparation, serving and storage. I love the fact that I can just snap on the lid once dinner is over, making clean-up super easy. Because we use this set so much, we ended up ordering a second set, they're multi-purpose perfect!

These are great glass containers and the sculptured designs are nice. We constantly use the three different sizes. I have ten of these bowls in my kitchen. Buy them!
