"Cute, but not very useful" 2010-03-16
By Athena Chen (Cleveland, OH)
I've only used them once to make molten chocolate cakes (recipe in the included cookbook), and they worked quite well. The cakes were delicious, too. However, I really think this was a purchase I made on a whim because I like Le Creuset and this particular product is aesthetically pleasing. I do not think these mini cocottes are practical, but that is in part due to what I like to cook (soups and stir-fries).

 "Stoneware mini cocottes" 2010-01-15
By A. Thomas (Fort Wayne, IN United States)
Like an earlier reviewer, having looked at the product description for the individual mini cocotte I assumed that this set would be enamel cast iron--the traditional LeCreuset trademark product--and that the set was a special promo. Alas, the set is "stoneware"--just another name for pottery. The pieces are clearly good quality--but overpriced. I have not yet decided whether to keep them, since they are attractive and useful for individual servings. The cookbook that is included has some interesting recipes in it--the mini spinach souffles and the onion soup come to mind--although several recipes seem to use the mini cocottes as little more than serving pieces. For those who love all things LeCreuset, this may be worth the expense, even though the little-used lids are the only place the brand name is visible.

"These are stoneware, not enameled cast iron" 2010-01-11
By galileojunk (Seattle, WA)
I was expecting these to be a set of the Le Creuset mini-cocottes that are sold individually by Amazon (and Williams-Sonoma, Sur la table, etc.), but that's not what they are. Those are made of the usual Le Creuset enameled cast iron...this set is made of stoneware, just pottery.

It didn't say in the product description that these were stoneware, and I assumed they were cast-iron because their other mini-cocottes are cast-iron. That said, I probably should have guessed based on the price. I thought I was getting a deal with 4 cast-iron ones for $80; not such a deal when they're light-weight pottery instead.

Anyway, I may still keep them; haven't decided. They're very cute and I'm sure they'll bake well, but I think they're probably overpriced.

"amazing quality that guests won't forget" 2009-09-28
By Julian T. Raymond (Atlanta, GA USA)
i got these at sur la table in charlotte, nc... before they even hit the floor. they come in a great little box for storage and include a recipe book... haven't tried a recipe in it yet, but it looks pretty good from the start. my only complaint is that you can tell the recipe book is translated from french. they opted to stress style in the layout, so they don't always give explicit instructions and assume you know how to cook. I do, and I think anyone who'd spend 20 bucks per mini cocotte would, too.

they're not a must-have kitchen item... but they sure will leave an impression on dinner guests.
