My family was looking for some non-stick alternatives, and research on silicone bakeware looked promising. I purchased this set, and was disappointed in the results. While nothing stuck to the bakeware, the smoke detector / fire alarm went off every time one of the pieces was put in the oven. After several attempts, I cleaned the oven completely, and tried an empty silicone cake pan in the oven at 350 degrees. After several minutes, an unnatural aroma filled the kitchen, then the house, and the smoke detectors were going off everywhere.
First, I called KitchenAid, who had this to say: the smoke detectors going off is normal, but cease using the silicone bakeware in a gas oven immediately. Firstly, nowhere on this product page does it say not to use with a gas oven. Secondly, nowhere on the KitchenAid Bakeware Set box does it say not to use with a gas oven. It is also pretty disappointing that a "normal" behavior, like smoke detectors going off, is not advertised somewhere.
I've contacted the vendor about a refund.
The rating of 1 star is for poor advertising on the behalf of the vendor and KitchenAid. I'm left with a concern I've risked my family's health. If you are using an electric oven, you may find that this product suits your needs.
