Checkerboard Cake Pan features a four-part system which uses a simple dividing ring and three pans to stack up and make a fun and delicous cake. Simply place the plastic ring inside one of the 9-inch pans and fill in the nine sections with two alternating flavors of batter. Remove the ring and place it in the next pan, filling in the opposite pattern for the middle layer. Repeat the step for the third pan, then bake all three cakes in the oven. Once they're cool, simply set one layer on top of the next to create the cheerful checkerboard of flavors. Tin transfers heat quickly. Hand wash.

Checkerboard layer cakes sure look fancy but they're surprisingly easy to make with this unique cake pan set by Norpro. The kit includes three 9 inch pans and one 3-ring batter divider, which is used to separate the vanilla and chocolate batter while pouring. Once you've baked the cakes achieving the checkerboard effect is simple: just stack the baked layers so the colors alternate, then frost. Dishwasher safe.

 "It works!" 2010-05-07
By K. Garr
The first time I tried this, it turned out great! One trick that is helpful: spray the inserts with no-stick cooking spray each time before pouring the batter - it helps a lot. My squares weren't as perfect as they are in the photo, but it still works great.

You can also have lots of fun with white cake mix and food coloring. I did a yellow and blue checkerboard cake that turned out great.

"Not very pleased with quality " 2009-03-23
By Texaswomyn (Texas)
This was a very disappointing pan set. The pans are very thin tinplate, as is the divider apparatus. The divider in my set did not fit tightly against the bottom of the pan, necessitating using one hand to hold the divider pressed down while putting the batter in the rings with the other. The divider is very sharp metal and cut me the first time I washed it. Also, once the cake layers are frosted and stacked, the checkerboard effect is greatly diminished. I'm returning this set and if I decide to give this another try, I will order the Norpro set with plastic divider and non-stick pans.

This is the second one of these pans I have purchased and plan on purchasing another for a Christmas gift. It is easy to use and the final outcome is a hit everytime.

I purchased a checkerboard cake from a bakery and my brother in law, the family cake baker loved the way it looked. I bought this pan for him for Christmas. I admit, I was skeptical that it would work, but he turned out a beautiful "checkerboard" cake on the first try! So, if you have the time to make 2 cake batters and want to show off a unique cake, I reccomend this pan.Norpro Checkerboard Cake Pan SetNorpro Checkerboard Cake Pan Set

 "Great Quality Product" 2007-01-18

I had another product similar to this that was plastic, but it broke. This product is made of high quality solid steel. I highly Recommend this product. Makes beautiful cakes.
