 "Sets a beautiful table" 2010-06-08
By Joan A. Damico (New York)
These lightweight plates and bowls are beautifully shaped and have the look of fine china. They compliment the Asian motif in my kitchen, but could certainly coordinate with any modern look. I've had them for about a year and they're holding up very well with no chips or scratches. I would love it if rounded cups were also offered, since the shape that comes with this set is not my favorite as a tea drinker.

 "Disappointed" 2009-02-12
By Babs (Bellevue, WA USA)
After owning Portmeirion Botanic Garden for 20 years and not having any scratches, my biscuit dinner plates were completely scratched up after about 5 uses. I've tried washing the marks off with baking soda and with toothpaste and nothing works. When I emailed the Portmeirion company about my concern they told me it was the grade of my cutlery. I've been using the same Ralph Lauren cutlery for 20 years on my Botanic Garden and haven't had any issues. I've also used it on some Denby plates with no issues. I wonder if it's really due to the ridges in the Sophie Conran plates. The bowls and mugs look great. I love the style and the color but do not know what to do with all the dark marks on my plates. This line just doesn't seem to be the same high quality as Botanic Garden.

 "Sleek and handcrafted look" 2009-01-11
By KC Mom
Both the buttery color and handcrafted shapes give a beautiful look to this place setting. The dishes are light weight(like other Portmeirion dishes), and chip resistent. They stack nicely in the cabinets and fit easily in the dish washer. Comes in a pretty box that is nice enough to re-purpose.

 "The Ideal White Dishes" 2008-12-02
By Joan
First saw these online. Went to Macy's fine china dept. to see them in person and that was all it took. They are smart, contemporary, and stylish (especially for white dishes). The plates are beautiful and the oval shape of the soup bowls is so unique. They'll go with everything and I intend to purchase more. A great choice.

 "Love this!" 2008-08-07
By Stella (Bellingham, WA USA)
I looked for new dishes for a couple of years and finally bought these. I LOVE them. I bought the entire set. Lots of $$. No regrets. I've had them a year and no chips or any problems. They are simple but classy. Everyone comments on them. I love the serving shapes as well.

"Love the look, but already chipped" 2008-04-22
By D. Craig (Davis, CA United States)
I bought these dishes (plates, salad plates, and bowls) because I have had Botanic Garden by Portmeirion for 20 years. It holds up so well--NO chips in 20 yrs (broken dishes from dropping, yes, but no chips). I thought of Portmeirion for this reason when I wanted some dishes without as much of a pattern as the Botanic Garden. I really do love the design of the Sophie Conran, slightly uneven edges give it a country look. I have had them about one month, and already a chip. I wrote Portmeirion about this--are they not the same quality of product? I don't know, and I am hoping to get a response.

"In love with dishes, size and all" 2009-04-24
By Cynthia Brighton (Sussex, NJ USA)
I ordered these dishes without seeing the real deal, and I am so happy I did! They are unusual in style and go great with my treble clef flatware. I'm glad the salad plates are 8" and the dinner plate is off by an inch too. Plates are getting way too big and so are a lot of us! Thanks to the reviewer who noted the mistake in sizes. Otherwise, I may have gone with something else.

 "Wrong size advertised" 2009-01-23
By treehugger22 (Newtown Square, PA United States)
These are actually very nice plates - lovely and nice quality - and so I feel badly giving a poor review. However they are advertised to be 9 inch plates and are actually only 8 inches and for that reason I will be returning them.

 "Wonderful" 2008-05-02
By H Morgan (Pittsburgh , PA, USA)
I bought plates, bowls, sugar bowl and milk jug and love them. They are just very stylish and look great on the table. I will be buying the other pieces.

"Graceful, ample and easy to hold" 2010-02-24
By COH (Chapel Hill, NC)
I have a full set of dishes as well as accessory pieces from this line.

The design has an organic, hand wrought look and feel but it has

all the advantages of porcelain. I wanted white dishes that would not

scratch, for an updated, contemporary feel. These mugs are lovely,

sturdy and also stack for extra space!

My old dishes are also Portmeirion, and they have held up beautifully

over the years.

 "strong and dreamy dishes" 2009-03-19
By amazonian goddess (Pitman, NJ USA)
I've had this dinner ware for over a month now. No chipping or cracking. Normal use, dish washer, etc. I learned that porcelain is stronger than stoneware because of vitrification. These dishes are porcelain and have already outlasted the stoneware I had in terms of chipping, etc.

Besides the practical strength, these dishes are rhythmic---the design has flow and rhythm. The color is ethereal---sort of alters one's state of consciousness to use these dishes.

My only problem with them is that the color is such that it is difficult for me to choose tablecloths other than white or cream--but that is my failure of imagination, not the dishes. The dishes are inspired. And they do come in other colors, including white. But that lovely celadon blue...ahhh.
